NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — UPDATE: Shortly after 9 a.m., traffic was beginning to resume normally.
If you're traveling through the Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel this morning, you may experience delays.
According to an update from the Virginia Department of Transportation, on I-664 in Newport News at the south end of the tunnel, traffic is backed up nearly two miles due to a car fire.
All southbound lanes are closed at this time, and the north left shoulder and left lane are also closed.
At this time, there isn't any additional information on the car fire or if anyone has been hurt. According to dispatch, the Newport News Fire Department is on the scene.
